About This Event
11th Dubrovnik Half Marathon 2026: Du Motion Runners' Days in the World's Most Beautiful Race City
Some races are about the time on the clock. Some are about the course. A very small number are about both, and about something else entirely: the feeling that you have been somewhere genuinely extraordinary, that the distance between the start gun and the finish line was also a journey through a city that earned every superlative ever written about it. The 11th Dubrovnik Half Marathon, the flagship race of Du Motion – Runners' Days Dubrovnik, takes place on Sunday 26 April 2026, with the full event weekend running from Saturday 25 April to Sunday 26 April 2026. The broader Runner's Pass is valid from 23 to 29 April 2026.
This is a race certified by European Athletics with five-star endorsement, registered with the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), and described by runners from nearly 50 countries who lined up for the 2025 edition as "absolutely the best location for a half marathon in the world" and "arguably the best start/finish stretch amongst all races." Those are not marketing claims. They are the assessments of people who have run in many cities and know the difference.
The 2026 edition is particularly significant. It is the 10th anniversary edition of Du Motion, meaning this is not just a race but a celebration of a decade of putting Dubrovnik in motion in a very literal sense. Be sure to mark April 25 and 26, 2026, on your calendar.
The Story of Du Motion: How a Bold Idea Became a World-Class Event
From a Vision in 2015 to Nearly 50 Countries at the Start Line
The story of the Dubrovnik Half Marathon began in 2015 with a vision to set Dubrovnik in motion. It was, as the organizers themselves describe it, a somewhat bold idea: running a half marathon through the narrow limestone streets of a medieval UNESCO World Heritage city, closing the Stradun to traffic, sending a thousand athletes through the Pile Gate and past the walls that have defined the Republic of Ragusa for five centuries.
The project grew from the combined commitment of the Dubrovnik Sports Federation, the City of Dubrovnik, and the Dubrovnik Tourist Office, institutions that recognised the race as something more than a sporting event: it was a way of experiencing the city that no guided tour, boat trip, or cable car ride could replicate. A race that takes its participants from the Stradun, through the Old Town, out to the Adriatic coastline, and along the shores of the Rijeka Dubrovačka is a race that reveals the city rather than simply passing through it.
By 2025, its ninth edition drew runners from nearly 50 countries. One thousand runners completed the half marathon; just as many participated in the five-kilometre charity race. The event had accumulated a marriage proposal at the finish line, a tradition that has become part of Du Motion's story. The 2026 edition, as the tenth, carries all of that accumulated energy into a celebratory weekend that the organizers and the city of Dubrovnik have been building toward together.
The 2026 Race Weekend: All Four Events Explained
The Star: Dubrovnik Half Marathon (21K) on Sunday 26 April
The Half Marathon is Du Motion's flagship, and it begins where everything in Dubrovnik's public life begins: on the Stradun, the long polished limestone promenade that runs through the heart of the Old Town from the Pile Gate to the Ploče Gate. At the starting gun, runners move eastward along the Stradun, turning onto St. Dominik Street, passing through the Ploče Gate, and then following the Iza Grada Street toward the Pile Gate before heading out of the Old Town entirely.
The confirmed course for the 2026 Half Marathon follows the full route:
Stradun → St. Dominik Street → Ploče Gate → Iza Grada Street → Pile → Branitelja Dubrovnika Street → Put od Republike → Vukovarska Street → Stjepan Radić Coast → John Paul II Coast → Batahovina → Sustjepan → Čajkovići → Komolac → Čajkovići → Sustjepan → Batahovina → John Paul II Coast → St Ante Starčević Street → Branitelja Dubrovnika Street → Pile → Pile Gate → Stradun
The outbound section takes runners along the Adriatic coast, through the southern suburbs of Dubrovnik, and out to the village of Komolac at the mouth of the Rijeka Dubrovačka. The return mirrors the outbound route, bringing runners back along the coast before re-entering the Old Town through the Pile Gate and finishing on the Stradun. The course is certified at the full 21.1 kilometres, measured and verified to European Athletics and AIMS standards.
Refreshment stations with water are positioned every 2.5 kilometres throughout the course. The maximum finish time is 3 hours. Toilets are provided at the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7.5th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13.5th, 16.5th, 19th, and 20th kilometre marks. Medical support is provided by Red Cross volunteers at water stations and the primary medical tent at the start/finish zone on the Stradun.
Registration closes on 31 March 2026, or earlier if the maximum of 1,000 runners registers before that date.
Run The Wall (2.5 km) on Saturday 25 April
For those who want the Dubrovnik running experience in the most concentrated possible form, the Run The Wall race on Saturday offers 2.5 kilometres of racing on the fortress walls themselves. This is a short, steep, and entirely unique running experience: the walls encircle the Old Town at an average height of 25 metres, and the course follows their internal walkway, rising and falling with the contours of the fortifications, delivering views across the terracotta rooftops of the Old Town and out over the Adriatic in both directions simultaneously.
The 2.5 km Run The Wall is open to runners aged 10 and over. It is not a particularly long race, but the elevation change and the uneven stone surface make it a genuine physical challenge for runners of all fitness levels, and the setting makes it unlike anything else in European road racing.
The 5K Charity Race on Sunday 26 April
The 5K Charity Race runs on Sunday alongside the half marathon and is open to adaptive athletes, making it one of the most deliberately inclusive elements of the Du Motion weekend. In previous years, the charity element has been linked to a specific cause selected by the organizers: the 2025 edition, for example, directed its charity proceeds toward little Lukas, a specific campaign chosen by the Du Motion director Alen Bošković. The 2026 charity beneficiary will be announced through the Du Motion website and social media channels closer to the event.
The 5K route follows sections of the main Stradun area and the broader Old Town approach, giving participants the same essential start/finish experience as the half marathon in a format accessible to a broader range of participants.
Kids' Day on Saturday 25 April
The Kids' Day on Saturday 25 April is one of the most distinctive elements of Du Motion's approach to building a running culture in Dubrovnik rather than simply hosting a race. Children from the age of 5 upward can participate in a 250-metre track race, and the atmosphere around the event, with families gathered on the Stradun and the city's youth having their own race day moment, gives the Saturday programme a warmth and community character that carries into the competitive events the following day.

The VIP package includes everything in Plus plus: backpack, hoodie, free cable car ride, Dubrovnik Tourist Guides tour, City Guide book, Pasta Party coupon, VIP goodie bag, and a 25% discount on 2027 registration.
The Lokrum Island excursion inclusion is particularly noteworthy: Lokrum, reachable by boat from the Old Town harbour in approximately 15 minutes, is a nature reserve of forested limestone with peacocks, a botanical garden, sea pools, and the ruins of a Benedictine monastery. Including it in the race package gives runners a complete Dubrovnik experience beyond the race itself.
Registration for the 2026 Half Marathon can be completed at du-motion.com. Given that the maximum field is 1,000 runners and registration has historically reached that limit before the March 31 deadline, early registration is strongly advisable.
Bib pickup takes place at the Motion Runners' Corner at Lazareti (Frana Supila 8) during the race week, valid from 23 to 29 April 2026.
The Course and the City: What Makes This Race Unique
Running Past 500 Years of History
The Dubrovnik Half Marathon course passes through a city that was, for five centuries, an independent republic whose diplomatic and commercial acumen allowed it to maintain sovereignty in a region dominated by the Ottoman Empire to the east, the Republic of Venice to the west, and successive Austro-Hungarian and Spanish powers beyond. The Republic of Ragusa maintained its independence until 1808, and the walls through which the run the Wall course passes are the physical expression of that independence: designed to resist attack, maintained to demonstrate civic pride, and preserved today as a monument that UNESCO placed on its World Heritage List in 1979.
Running through the Pile Gate, the main western entrance to the Old Town, or through the Ploče Gate at the eastern end, is running through an aperture in walls that have been standing for centuries. The Stradun beneath your feet is the same limestone that Ragusan merchants, ambassadors, and citizens walked for half a millennium. The Church of St. Blaise on the eastern end of the Stradun, visible from the start and finish zone, is dedicated to the patron saint whose miraculous intervention supposedly saved the republic from a Venetian surprise attack in 991.
The coastal section of the course, along the Stjepan Radić Coast and the John Paul II Coast, delivers a different kind of beauty: the Adriatic at close range, the islands of Koločep and Lopud visible in the distance, and the sense of the city's relationship with the sea that has defined everything about Dubrovnik from its origins as a maritime power.
Game of Thrones and the Most Photographed Race in Europe
The Dubrovnik Half Marathon course was one of the main filming locations for Game of Thrones, which used the Old Town extensively as the setting for King's Landing. The Stradun, the walls, Fort Lovrijenac, and several of the streets along the race route are recognisable to the millions of viewers who watched the show. For runners who are also fans, the race functions as an experiential tour of those locations at a pace that allows you to notice details that no guided tour captures.
The Game of Thrones guided tours available in Dubrovnik include routes that overlap significantly with the race course, and the runner pass that gives access to Dubrovnik museums and city walls allows participants to explore many of the locations more carefully in the days before and after the race.
Braga Dubrovnik in Late April: The City Before the Summer Rush
The Perfect Race Month
Late April sits at the ideal point in Dubrovnik's annual calendar for a running event. The city is fully operational, with all attractions, restaurants, and cultural venues open and active. The summer crowd intensity, which can see the Stradun carrying enormous numbers of visitors per hour at peak season, has not yet arrived. The temperatures are warm but not hot: average April temperatures in Dubrovnik are around 16 to 20 degrees Celsius during the day and 12 to 14 degrees in the early morning when the race begins, creating excellent running conditions.
The Liberty Day public holiday in Croatia falls on 30 May, and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival does not begin until 10 July, meaning the late April race weekend is entirely free of the competing large-scale events that summer brings. This is Dubrovnik as a city that rewards attention and deserves time, which is exactly what a race weekend provides.
The Old Town After the Race
The runner pass valid through 23 to 29 April 2026 gives participants an extended window to explore everything Dubrovnik offers beyond the race itself.
The city wall walk (approximately 2 kilometres around the full Old Town perimeter) is the single best orientation to the city, with views both inward over the rooftops and outward across the Adriatic. It opens daily and takes approximately 90 minutes at a moderate walking pace.
Fort Lovrijenac, the promontory fortress west of the Pile Gate built on a cliff 37 metres above the sea, carries the Ragusan motto "Non bene pro toto libertas venditur auro" (Freedom must not be sold for all the gold in the world) across its entrance. The Cathedral of the Assumption, the Baroque structure rebuilt after the 1667 earthquake, contains the Cathedral Treasury with its remarkable collection of reliquaries and sacred art. The Franciscan Monastery, at the western end of the Stradun, houses one of the oldest pharmacies in Europe, established in 1317.
The cable car to Mount Srđ, included in the VIP package, rises 405 metres above the city to a viewpoint from which the entire Old Town, the Adriatic coastline, and the surrounding islands are visible simultaneously. It is one of the finest panoramic views in the Mediterranean and a restorative experience for post-race recovery.

A Decade of Du Motion and a Race Worth Every Kilometre
The 11th Dubrovnik Half Marathon on 26 April 2026 arrives as the 10th anniversary celebration of Du Motion, ten years after the somewhat bold idea of running a half marathon through a UNESCO World Heritage medieval city proved itself not just viable but extraordinary. Almost 50 countries represented at the start line. A thousand runners finishing on the Stradun. Marriage proposals at the finish line. A 2.5-kilometre race on fortress walls that have been standing for half a millennium.
There are races that give you a medal. There are races that give you a time. And then there are races that give you Dubrovnik, at the pace of your own legs, before the summer arrives, in the particular light of a late April morning on the Adriatic coast.
Registration is at du-motion.com, and it closes on 31 March 2026 or when the field fills. Given the demand that the 9th edition generated, the 10th anniversary edition will sell out faster. The early registration packages, at €45 for Basic and €130 for VIP, represent the best value and the best guarantee of a place. Start there, and let the rest follow.
