Copa DOK Festival 2026: Three Days of Extraordinary Music at Ghent's Stadshaven

Ghent has always been a city that takes its festivals seriously. But when Copa DOK launched its first edition in 2025 and pulled crowds to the Stadshaven — the city's atmospheric former industrial harbour — with a lineup featuring Manu Chao and Bart Peeters, it was clear that something genuinely special had arrived on the Belgian festival calendar.

In 2026, Copa DOK is back for its second edition, running from Thursday, May 14 to Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the same iconic location: the Stadshaven (formerly the Triferto site) on Oceaniëstraat in Klein Gent. The lineup is, frankly, extraordinary: De La Soul with their only Belgian show of 2026, Goran Bregović & his Wedding and Funeral Band, Sylvie Kreusch, Gabriel Ríos, Selda Bağcan, Milk Inc. celebrating 30 years, De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig celebrating 20 years of Watskeburt?!, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Mariam Sings Amadou & Mariam, Kraantje Pappie, Vive La Fête, Kaat Van Stralen, Amber Broos, and Birthe.

This is three days of music that refuses to be categorised — and that refusal is entirely deliberate, entirely joyful, and entirely Ghent.

What Is Copa DOK? Ghent's Most Refreshingly Unpredictable Festival

Copa DOK was born from the belief that the best festival lineups are the ones that surprise you — that put artists together you would never have thought to combine, and that trust their audience to show up curious rather than comfortable.

The first edition proved the concept. Tens of thousands of visitors made their way to the Stadshaven in May 2025, and the atmosphere — open-air, riverside, with the industrial character of the old port softened by summer evening light — created exactly the kind of magic that you cannot engineer in advance.

For 2026, the organisation has kept faith with everything that worked and pushed it further: more artists per day (at least four shows each day), more stylistic variety, and a programme that builds each day around its own distinct character. Tickets are sold in waves, with prices rising as the event approaches — Wave 1 started at €39 for single-day entry, with subsequent waves at €49, €59, €69, and a Final Wave at €79 (all prices excluding service charges).

Day One: Thursday, May 14 — "Grenzeloos Feest" (A Borderless Party)

Show times begin at 8:00 PM.

The first day of Copa DOK 2026 is built around music without borders — connecting the Balkans, West Africa, and the Spanish-Caribbean world in a single evening.

  • Goran Bregović & his Wedding and Funeral Band
  • The Thursday headline is Goran Bregović — the Sarajevo-born composer and musician whose blend of Balkan brass, Roma musical traditions, and Western rock has made him one of the most genuinely joyful live acts in the world. His Wedding and Funeral Band brings brass players, vocalists, and an ensemble that can move from a dirge to a dance in a single breath. "Champagne for Gypsies," "Hop Hop Hop," "Kalashnikov," and inevitably "Bella Ciao" will feature — a setlist described by organisers as "feestelijke melancholie in een energieke jas" — festive melancholy in an energetic jacket.
  • Tiken Jah Fakoly and Mariam Sings Amadou & Mariam
  • The African dimension of Thursday comes from Tiken Jah Fakoly — the Ivory Coast reggae star whose music combines the rhythms of Jamaica with the politics and poetry of West Africa — and Mariam Sings Amadou & Mariam, celebrating the music of the legendary Malian blind duo.
  • Gabriel Ríos
  • Gabriel Ríos — the Puerto Rico-born, Bruges-raised singer-songwriter who became one of Belgium's most beloved musical voices — opens the evening with his singular blend of Caribbean rhythms, folk, and heartfelt songwriting. His appearance at Copa DOK is a natural homecoming: a Flemish-Caribbean artist at a Flemish-Caribbean-Balkan-African festival.

Day Two: Friday, May 15 — "Straffe Madammen-Dag" (The Fierce Women's Day)

The organisers announced Friday with the phrase "straffe madammen-dag" — fierce women's day — and the lineup delivers on that promise with a programme built around female artistry at its most diverse and uncompromising.

  • Selda Bağcan
  • Selda Bağcan is a Turkish rock and folk legend — a singer and saz player whose music from the 1970s was censored by the Turkish government for its political directness. At 77, she continues to perform with an authority and presence that makes younger artists seem timid by comparison. Her Copa DOK appearance is a genuine privilege and one of the most compelling booking decisions the festival makes.
  • Sylvie Kreusch
  • Sylvie Kreusch is one of the most fascinating figures in contemporary Belgian music — a Ghent-born artist whose music sits at the intersection of indie pop, electronic music, and cabaret, delivered with a theatrical intelligence and emotional directness that sets her apart entirely. Her Copa DOK performance on Friday May 15 is a homecoming in the most literal sense: Ghent's most distinctive musical personality playing in her own city.
  • Kaat Van Stralen, Vive La Fête, and Amber Broos
  • The Friday programme rounds out with three more distinctive voices: Kaat Van Stralen, described as blending "cracking punk, biting psychedelia and incisive spoken word"; the iconic Belgian new wave-electronic act Vive La Fête, who have been making danceable, caustic, gloriously Belgian music since the late 1990s; and Amber Broos, the young Belgian pop voice whose recent rise has been one of the most watched in the Flemish music industry.

Day Three: Saturday, May 16 — "De Zotste Dag" (The Wildest Day)

Saturday is billed simply as "de zotste dag" — the craziest day — and the lineup earns that description immediately.

  • De La Soul with Live Band — Their Only Belgian Show of 2026
  • The Saturday headline is the most significant booking Copa DOK has ever made. De La Soul — the legendary Queens, New York hip-hop trio whose influence on the entire genre cannot be overstated — comes to Stadshaven with a full live band for their only show in Flanders in 2026.
  • De La Soul's story is one of hip-hop's great narratives. Formed in 1987 by Posdnuos, Dave, and Maseo, they released 3 Feet High and Rising in 1989 — widely considered one of the greatest debut albums in hip-hop history, a revolutionary, playful, sample-rich record that showed the genre's full creative potential. Their catalogue includes De La Soul Is Dead, Buhloone Mindstate, Stakes Is High, and the celebrated collaboration with Gorillaz on "Feel Good Inc." — a 2005 number one that introduced them to an entirely new generation.
  • The loss of founding member Dave (David Jude Jolicoeur) in February 2023 gave the group's continued performances an added emotional resonance. Posdnuos and Maseo carry the legacy forward with a live band that has been touring the world in 2025 and 2026, giving the music new life in exactly the way that Dave himself would have wanted. Coming to Ghent for their only Belgian performance of the year is a genuinely significant moment.
  • Milk Inc. – 30 Years of Belgian Eurodance
  • If De La Soul represents hip-hop history, Milk Inc. represents Belgian dance music history. The Antwerp-based eurodance act — built around Ann Vervoort's extraordinary vocals and the production work of Regi Penxten — celebrates 30 years in 2026. Songs like "In My Eyes," "La Vache," and "Never Again" have been played at Belgian parties, weddings, and clubs for three decades, and there is perhaps no better setting for a 30th anniversary performance than an open-air summer festival in Ghent.
  • De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig and Kraantje Pappie
  • Dutch hip-hop royalty De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig arrives with their 20th anniversary tour of Watskeburt?! — the album that changed Dutch-language hip-hop irrevocably. And Kraantje Pappie brings his own distinctive flavour of Dutch rap energy to close out what the organisation has accurately described as the wildest day. Birthe opens the evening.

De Dok: A Festival Location Like No Other in Belgium

The Stadshaven — the old port area in the Klein Gent neighbourhood at Oceaniëstraat, 9000 Ghent — is one of those post-industrial waterfront spaces that cities across Europe have been reimagining as cultural venues. In Ghent's case, the process feels organic and genuinely Gentse: a working harbour that has evolved rather than been sanitised, with the water still visible, the industrial scale still present, and the city's distinctive creative energy filling the space between the old dock buildings.

The Copa DOK site uses that character fully — open-air stages, riverside atmosphere, the industrial backdrop creating a festival environment that has none of the generic feel of a field-and-fence festival. This is music in a place with its own story.

Three Days That Define What a Belgian Summer Can Be

Copa DOK 2026 is not trying to be the biggest festival in Belgium. It is trying to be the most interesting, the most unexpected, and the most genuinely joyful. With a lineup that spans Balkan brass, West African reggae, legendary hip-hop, Turkish folk rock, Belgian eurodance, Flemish punk poetry, and the most singular voice currently working in Ghent's music scene — it has succeeded.
