Nubya Garcia at Stamba Hotel Tbilisi: A Night of Contemporary Jazz, April 24, 2026

The New York Times described her sound as belonging to "the brawny, big-toned tradition of tenor saxophonists like John Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, spelling out her melodies in broad, decisive phrases." That is about as high a bar of comparison as jazz criticism offers. And on Friday, April 24, 2026, Nubya Garcia and her band bring that sound to Tbilisi — to the Rooms Garden at the Stamba Hotel complex, in one of the most atmospheric live music settings in the Georgian capital, as the centrepiece of the Bar Brutal × Stamba Hotel weekend.

This is not a stadium show or a festival main stage. It is an intimate outdoor evening — MokuMoku opening from 22:00, Nubya Garcia and her full band on stage at approximately 23:00, afterparty with Moku J at the Rooms Lobby through the night.

Tickets at tkt.ge.

Who Is Nubya Garcia: The Voice Redefining Contemporary Jazz

Nubya Garcia was born in London to Trinidadian and Guyanese parents — a heritage that runs directly through her music, in the Afro-Caribbean rhythms and tonal warmth that give her jazz a specifically diasporic identity quite distinct from the American and European mainstream.

She came up through the Tomorrow's Warriors programme — the London jazz education initiative that has arguably produced more significant British jazz talent per square metre than any other organisation in UK music history — and emerged into the London jazz scene in the early 2010s as part of the extraordinary generation of players (Shabaka Hutchings, Moses Boyd, Yussef Dayes, Ezra Collective, Poppy Ajudha, Kokoroko) whose collective output has been described as a renaissance in British jazz.

Garcia's specific voice on the tenor saxophone is distinctive for its combination of technical command and emotional directness — she plays with the full, rounded tone of the classic American tradition but with a melodic instinct and rhythmic vocabulary that is entirely her own, shaped by jazz, dub, R&B, soul, and the specific energy of London's most diverse music scene.

The Discography

"Nubya's 5ive" (2017, EP) — the debut release that introduced her to the broader British and international jazz audience; five tracks that established her compositional voice as clearly as her playing

"When We Are" (2019, Concord Jazz) — the album that brought her to international attention; the 20-minute title track in particular demonstrated a capacity for extended, patient, structured improvisation that most saxophone players at her career stage simply don't possess

"SOURCE" (2021, Impulse! Records) — the full-length debut album that delivered on everything her earlier recordings had promised; released on one of the most prestigious jazz labels in the world (Impulse! has released John Coltrane, Alice Coltrane, Archie Shepp, Charles Mingus); shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2022; immediately recognised as one of the defining albums of contemporary British jazz

The Mercury Prize nomination placed Garcia in the company of the most significant British musicians working in any genre — a rare achievement for a jazz artist in the prize's history, and a formal recognition of what the jazz world had already understood for several years.

The Bar Brutal × Stamba Weekend: The Full April 24 Context

The Nubya Garcia concert is the musical centrepiece of the Bar Brutal × Stamba Hotel weekend — a two-day curated event (April 24–25, 2026) that combines natural wine culture, Mediterranean cooking, live music, and the Stamba ecosystem's distinctive architecture and hospitality.

Bar Brutal is a Barcelona wine bar that has become one of the reference points for the international natural wine scene — a gathering place for the kind of culturally curious, food-and-drink-serious audience that travels for good wine and good company. This is its second Tbilisi edition, following a 2025 debut that, in the festival's own words, "went beyond any of our expectations."

The Full Friday, April 24 Programme

19:00 — Mediterranean Supra on the Stamba Rooftop:

Ed Wilson and Josie Stead from Brawn — the iconic Bethnal Green restaurant in East London that has been one of the most consistently admired dining destinations in the UK for over a decade — host a Mediterranean-style Supra (the Georgian long-table feast format, Georgia's most fundamental expression of hospitality and generosity) on the Stamba Hotel rooftop.

Wines are curated by Bar Brutal in collaboration with Warehouse — meaning natural wines from the cutting edge of the international natural wine world, selected by the people who know it best. The Supra format — long tables, communal serving, the expectation of abundance and conversation — is both deeply Georgian and perfectly suited to the Mediterranean spirit that Brawn brings.

22:00 — MokuMoku: Opening Act, Rooms Garden:

MokuMoku — a Tbilisi-based Georgian artist — opens the concert portion of the evening in the Rooms Garden, the outdoor performance space of the Rooms Hotel adjacent to the Stamba complex. The Rooms Garden has established itself as one of Tbilisi's most atmospheric live music settings — the open-air courtyard of a design hotel in the heart of the city, backed by the distinctive architecture of the former Soviet publishing house.

23:00 — Nubya Garcia and Her Band: Live Concert, Rooms Garden:

The main event. Garcia and her full band in an outdoor concert setting — the Rooms Garden at night, the Tbilisi skyline as backdrop, a crowd drawn from across Georgia and the international community of residents and visitors who understand exactly what kind of night this is.

After Concert — Moku J Afterparty: Rooms Lobby:

The evening continues in the Rooms Hotel lobby — the interior space of the hotel that, under the direction of Rooms Hotels' design philosophy, is one of the most visually distinctive gathering spaces in Tbilisi; Moku J keeps the night running.

Saturday, April 25

The weekend continues with Theo Parrish — the legendary American DJ and producer from Detroit, whose extended sets are among the most sought-after live experiences in contemporary electronic and house music — taking over the Stamba Amphitheatre for a full afternoon/evening set from 17:00.

Stamba Hotel and Rooms Tbilisi: The Venue Complex

The concert takes place within the Stamba Hotel / Rooms Tbilisi ecosystem — a complex of two connected boutique hotels that occupy a converted former Soviet printing house at 14 Merab Kostava Street, Tbilisi 0108, approximately 700 metres from Rustaveli Metro Station.

The Stamba Hotel was converted from a printing house (stamba means "printing house" in Georgian) and opened in 2017 — immediately recognised as one of the most design-ambitious hotel projects in Tbilisi and one of the finest boutique hotels in the Caucasus region. It operates under the Design Hotels brand (within the Marriott Bonvoy group), and its combination of industrial architecture, Georgian art collection, and the rooftop restaurant and amphitheatre have made it one of the most visited hotel experiences in Tbilisi.

The complex includes:

  • Stamba Hotel main building — 62 rooms; bar, restaurant, art gallery, and event spaces in the converted printing house structure
  • Stamba Rooftop — the event space for the Friday Supra dinner; panoramic views over Tbilisi
  • Stamba Amphitheatre — the outdoor event space used for Theo Parrish on Saturday; designed for concerts and performances
  • Rooms Hotel Tbilisi — the adjacent boutique hotel in the same complex
  • Rooms Garden — the outdoor courtyard performance space where the Nubya Garcia concert takes place
  • Rooms Lobby — the distinctive interior gathering space hosting the afterparty

The venue's position on Merab Kostava Street places it at the heart of Tbilisi's contemporary cultural and creative district — 0.6 km from Rose Revolution Square (Freedom Square), 700 metres from Rustaveli Metro Station, near the Tbilisi Concert Hall and the Georgian National Ballet and Opera House.

Tbilisi in April: Spring, Jazz, and Natural Wine

April in Tbilisi is one of the best times to visit the city — temperatures of 16–22°C, the city's parks and streets in full spring colour, and the cultural calendar entering one of its most active periods before the summer heat of July and August.

The Stamba/Rooms complex is within walking distance of some of Tbilisi's most compelling cultural destinations:

  • Fabrika (Chugureti) — 15 minutes' walk; the creative complex and natural wine bar hub of the city's young creative community
  • Vera neighbourhood — 10 minutes' walk; the gentrifying district of early 20th-century apartment buildings, independent cafes, and wine bars
  • Rustaveli Avenue — 10 minutes' walk; the main cultural boulevard with the National Museum, National Gallery, and the Rustaveli Theatre
  • The Georgian National Opera and Ballet Theatre — 900 metres from the hotel; the ornate 19th-century opera house that remains one of the most beautiful buildings in Tbilisi

One of the Most Intimate Jazz Nights of 2026

Friday, April 24 at the Rooms Garden, Stamba Hotel complex, Tbilisi. Nubya Garcia's tenor saxophone in an outdoor courtyard, in a city of 1.1 million people at the intersection of Europe and Asia, as part of a weekend built around the best natural wine, the best cooking, and the best music that Bar Brutal and Stamba Hotel can put together.

That is a rare combination. The tickets for all event formats are available now.
