About This Event
Solence, Dream State & Written By Wolves at TivoliVredenburg Utrecht: Sunday, May 3, 2026
When three bands from three completely different corners of the rock world land on the same bill, in a venue specifically designed for this kind of music, on a Sunday evening in one of the most consistently great live music cities in Europe — you take note.
On Sunday, May 3, 2026, Solence headlinesTivoliVredenburg's Grote Zaal in Utrecht with Dream State and Written By Wolves as special guests. Doors open at 18:30. The show runs from 19:00 to 22:00. And the three bands sharing this stage represent a genuinely compelling cross-section of what rock music sounds like in the 2020s — melodic and heavy, electronically textured but emotionally direct, and built on live performance that prioritises intensity over polish.
Tickets available at tivolivredenburg.nl.
Solence: The Swedish-American Band Behind a 23-Date European Tour
Solence was formed in Sweden and operates out of Los Angeles — a combination that gives their music a dual identity: the melodic darkness and atmospheric production sensibility of Nordic rock, crossed with the harder edges and stadium ambitions of the American alternative metal scene.
The band's sound sits at the intersection of alternative metal, post-hardcore, and electronic rock — the kind of music that uses electronic programming and texture not as a substitute for live instruments but as a layer above them, creating a dense, layered sound that is simultaneously heavy and melodic, aggressive and accessible.
The 2025 Album and the Road Back Out
The 2026 European tour follows the release of "Angels Calling" — Solence's most recent full release, described by the band and their label as the work that led naturally to the headline touring ambition of the current campaign.
Before the current tour, Solence spent late 2025 on the road as support act for Nothing More — one of the US rock scene's most respected touring and recording bands — gaining a significant amount of live experience in front of large audiences. The response to those shows was described by Solence as the direct trigger for going out on their own headline tour almost immediately afterward.
In the band's own words when announcing the tour: "We've been on the road with NOTHING MORE over the last few weeks and the response has been amazing, so it felt natural that we get out there again and get the people what they want... more of THE SOLENCE EXPERIENCE!"
The 23-Date EU/UK Tour
The tour that brings Solence to Utrecht on May 3 is a 23-date run — one of the most extensive European headline tours any band at their level has undertaken in 2026. Starting in Helsinki on April 8, it covers Scandinavia, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, the full UK circuit (Bristol, Glasgow, Manchester, London), and the Netherlands before finishing in Switzerland in mid-May.
The Utrecht date is date 22 out of 23 — the second-to-last stop before the tour ends in Monthey, Switzerland on May 9. This means Utrecht gets the band at the peak of their live form: after six weeks of continuous touring, the set is locked in, the band is playing together at the sharpest possible level, and the energy of a closing run of dates is typically the highest of any tour.
Dream State: The Welsh Rock Band With a Vocalist Who Stops Rooms
Dream State are from Cardiff, Wales — and they bring to the Utrecht bill a combination that is relatively rare in European alternative rock: a female vocalist whose range, power, and emotional directness put her in the same category as the most compelling vocalists in rock anywhere.
CJ Gilpin — Dream State's singer — has a voice that operates equally comfortably in the clean upper registers and the heavier, driven tones that the band's more intense moments require. The contrast within a single song between these modes is one of Dream State's most effective compositional tools, and it is one of the things that makes them a genuinely interesting support act rather than a band simply filling time before the headliner.
Dream State have released two full albums:
- "Primrose Path" (2020) — debut album; established the band's identity: melodic choruses, heavy verses, dynamic shifts that make the light-and-dark contrast the central structural feature of their songwriting
- "Untethered" (2021) — the follow-up that confirmed their development and broadened their European profile significantly
The band's announcement of this tour was enthusiastic: "Dreamers! We're excited to announce we are going on tour in the UK & Europe with our friends in Solence and Written By Wolves in 2026!" — language that reflects a genuine friendship between these three bands as much as a commercial booking decision.
Written By Wolves: Anthemic Rock From New Zealand and Beyond
Written By Wolves complete the bill — a band whose origin in New Zealand has not prevented them from building a following across the global alternative and melodic rock community, and whose sound is perhaps the most immediately accessible of the three: big choruses, anthemic arrangements, and the kind of rock music that sounds best in a room of people who know the words.
They have toured extensively at the international level, including Australian and New Zealand headline tours and multiple UK and European runs — meaning they arrive in Utrecht on May 3 as a band that knows exactly how to work a venue the size of TivoliVredenburg's Grote Zaal.
Note: Written By Wolves play the full Utrecht show; the tour announcement specifies that they are NOT on the final Swiss dates (May 8 and 9), making the Utrecht stop on May 3 one of the last dates at which all three bands play together on the same night.
TivoliVredenburg Grote Zaal: The Perfect Room for This Show
TivoliVredenburg is the most significant music venue in Utrecht and one of the finest music venues in the Netherlands — a multi-hall complex opened in 2014 at Vredenburgkade 11, 3511 WC Utrecht, directly adjacent to Utrecht Centraal station.
The complex is the result of a merger between two historic Utrecht music venues — Tivoli (founded 1960s) and Vredenburg (the large modern hall built in 1979) — and it contains five separate halls designed for different musical genres and audience sizes, each acoustically engineered for its specific purpose.
The Grote Zaal (Great Hall) — the specific room for the Solence concert — is TivoliVredenburg's main standing rock hall: a large, adaptable space with a capacity of up to approximately 2,000 in standing format, professional sound and lighting infrastructure, and the physical characteristics that make a rock show in this room fundamentally different from a festival stage or a smaller club.
The Grote Zaal's combination of ceiling height, barrier-free floor design, and its proximity to the stage creates the specific physical experience that distinguishes it from Amsterdam venues of similar size: in Utrecht's Grote Zaal, you are never very far from the stage, and the sound system has been specifically designed for the standing rock show format.
The venue's position at Utrecht Centraal — with direct pedestrian access from the station concourse — makes it the most easily accessible rock venue of its size in the Netherlands.

Utrecht: The City That Gives This Concert Context
Utrecht's identity as a music city is partly a function of its physical location — halfway between Amsterdam and Eindhoven, easily accessible from Rotterdam, The Hague, and across the Netherlands — and partly a function of the city's culture, shaped by Utrecht University (founded 1636), one of the largest universities in the Netherlands with approximately 36,000 students who form the core of the city's live music audience.
The May 3 concert takes place the day before Liberation Day (Bevrijdingsdag, May 4–5) — the Dutch national holiday weekend — meaning that many people who travel to Utrecht for the show may also find themselves in the city for the national celebrations the following day.
Utrecht around TivoliVredenburg:
- Oudegracht (Old Canal) — Utrecht's signature urban feature, a 3-minute walk from TivoliVredenburg; the double-level canal quay with bars and restaurant terraces that fill in May evenings; the ideal post-show destination
- Neude Square — the lively central square with bars and the restored 1920s post office building; a 7-minute walk
- Dom Tower — the 112-metre Gothic tower visible from TivoliVredenburg's glass facade; one of the Netherlands' most distinctive landmarks; the Domplein square is a 10-minute walk
- Potterstraat and Nobelstraat — the streets surrounding TivoliVredenburg that concentrate Utrecht's pre-show bar and restaurant scene; open late on concert nights
